What a hostel costs in Lucknow

Rent varies more by locality than by anything else. As a rough guide for student accommodation across the city:

Gomti Nagar and Hazratganj sit at the top of those ranges; Jankipuram, Aliganj and Faizabad Road are usually the most affordable. These are market ranges, not Hostelova's prices — each listing shows what that specific property actually charges.

Where to look, by campus

AKTU (main campus)

Chinhat, Kamta and Deva Road keep the commute short. Jankipuram is a common fallback with better rents.

Integral University

Dasauli, Kursi Road and Faizabad Road are the closest clusters, with plenty of PG stock aimed at students.

Lucknow University & BBAU

Aliganj, Vikas Nagar and Jankipuram for LU; Rae Bareli Road and Vrindavan Yojna for BBAU.

Amity & the IT corridor

Gomti Nagar and Vibhuti Khand — pricier, but closest to internships and offices.

A guide to Lucknow's student neighbourhoods

Campus distance is the obvious filter, but the area you land in decides how the rest of the year feels — what you pay, how late you can get food, and whether a rickshaw is waiting at 8 in the morning. Here is how the main student pockets actually differ.

Jankipuram

The default answer for most Lucknow students, and for good reason. Dense PG stock, cheap tiffin services, and rents at the lower end of the city range. Sits close to Lucknow University's second campus and stays within reach of AKTU. Trade-off: it is a long ride to the eastern side of the city.

Aliganj

An older, settled neighbourhood with proper markets, coaching centres and chemists — the things you notice only when they are missing. Well connected in most directions, mid-range on rent, and a common pick for students who want a normal locality rather than a student-only bubble.

Gomti Nagar & Vibhuti Khand

The newest and priciest side of the city, and where the offices are. Worth the rent if you are at Amity or doing an internship in the IT corridor, because the commute disappears. Expect the top of every range on this page, and fewer budget triple-sharing rooms.

Chinhat & Kamta

The closest cluster to the AKTU main campus, on the eastern edge towards Deva Road. Noticeably cheaper than Gomti Nagar for a similar room, and popular with engineering students who would rather spend the difference than the travel time.

Faizabad Road & Dasauli

A long ribbon of PGs built up around Integral University. Because it is an arterial road, buses and shared autos run late, which matters if your labs or classes finish after dark. Rents sit at the affordable end.

Vikas Nagar

Quiet, largely residential and family-heavy, just across from Aliganj. Suits students who want to actually study at home. Fewer purpose-built hostels here, so more of the stock is flats and rooms in family houses.

Vrindavan Yojna

South Lucknow, off Rae Bareli Road, and the natural base for BBAU and SGPGI. Newer construction than most of the city, so rooms tend to be better built. Thinner on street food and late-night options than the northern areas.

Whichever area you shortlist, filter by your actual campus on the booking page rather than by the name of a locality — two addresses in the same neighbourhood can be twenty minutes apart.

Hostel, PG or a shared flat?

The three words get used interchangeably in listings, but they are genuinely different products and the right one depends on how much structure you want.

Hostelova labels each listing by type, and for flats it shows how many people the owner allows, so you can tell a four-person flat from a four-sharing room before you enquire.

What to check before you pay

Most bad hostel experiences trace back to something that was knowable in advance. Before you commit anywhere — on Hostelova or otherwise:

  1. Is the deposit refundable, and on what terms? Get the answer in writing, not verbally.
  2. What is not in the rent? Electricity, water, laundry and mess are billed separately at many properties.
  3. Are the photos of the room you would actually get? Ask for the specific floor and room number.
  4. What are the house rules? Entry timings, guest policy and notice period cause more disputes than rent does.
  5. Who is the owner? A verified identity is the difference between a landlord and a stranger with a key.

How Hostelova handles this

Every Lucknow property on Hostelova has been through owner verification — Aadhaar identity documents and property proof, reviewed by our team before the listing can appear. Listings carry the sharing options with their individual prices, the refundable deposit, any maintenance charge, the amenities and the house rules.

At checkout you see the complete payable amount before paying anything, with the refundable deposit stated separately from the room rent. Your room is locked to you the moment payment succeeds, so it cannot be sold to someone else while you are arranging money. See how booking works.

Common questions

Are girls-only hostels available?

Yes. Every listing states whether it is girls-only, boys-only or co-ed, along with entry timings and visitor policy.

Can I book for just a few months?

Yes. You choose the number of months at checkout and the total is calculated from that — you are not forced into a full year.

Is food included?

It depends on the property. Mess and food arrangements are listed as amenities where the owner provides them.

Do I pay brokerage?

No. There is no brokerage on Hostelova — only the property's rent and deposit plus one service fee shown at checkout.

How much does a hostel cost in Lucknow?

Triple sharing usually starts around ₹4,000 a month and a single AC room can reach ₹12,000–₹14,000, depending mostly on the locality. Gomti Nagar and Hazratganj sit at the top; Jankipuram, Aliganj and Faizabad Road are the most affordable. Each listing shows what that property actually charges.

Which area should I pick for my college?

Chinhat, Kamta and Deva Road for the AKTU main campus. Dasauli, Kursi Road and Faizabad Road for Integral University. Aliganj, Vikas Nagar and Jankipuram for Lucknow University. Rae Bareli Road and Vrindavan Yojna for BBAU. Gomti Nagar and Vibhuti Khand for Amity and the IT corridor.

Can I pick a specific room, or just a room type?

Where the owner has mapped the building, you choose the actual floor and room number on a floor plan before paying — not just “a double room”. That exact room is then held for you while you pay, so nobody else can take it mid-checkout.

Do I need documents to book?

Some owners ask for identity or college documents at move-in. Where they do, the listing names them and you confirm you can provide each one before payment, so nothing is sprung on you at the gate.

Can I book from outside Lucknow, before I arrive?

Yes — that is the point. Verification, photos, prices and house rules are all on the listing, and payment and confirmation happen online, so you can arrange a room before you travel rather than hunting for one with your luggage.
